Scientists In Britain Claim Major Advance In TB Treatment
Researchers in Oxford and Birmingham say they can isolate different strains of the disease using a process called genome sequencing,
It means that patients that have waited for a long time to get the right drugs can now be diagnosed within a few days and they have greater chance of recovering.According to health secretary,Jeremy Hunt,he said this breakthrough will save lives.
The scientists who made this breakthrough said, genome sequencing allows them to identify the DNA of different samples in less than a week.
This breakthrough came at the most appropriate time after experts allayed fears of drug resistant strains of TB was threatening to derail efforts to eradicate the disease.A new study has shown that one in five global cases of the disease is now resistant to at least one major treatment drug.
