Girls as young as nine are seeking for Vagina surgery due to negativity from pornography
A new trend that's apparently coming up among young girls and teenage girls is however causing surgeons and gynaecologist sleepless night. The new trend sees young girls between ages 9-14 seeking for Vagina surgery.
Vagina surgery or Labiaplasty as it is known,is the surgical procedure which reduces the length of the labia minora, that is,it shortens or reshapes the lips of the Vagina.
A gynaecologist,Dr. Naomi Crouch who is specialized in adolescents and also chairs the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology while speaking with the BBC said:
She continued by saying that the trend is worrying and calls for concern as GP's (General Practitioner) are referring so many young girls who seek an operation. She further said that while working with the NHS,she is yet to see any girl who really needs the so-called operation.
Also speaking withe the BBC, Paquita de Zulueta who is a General Practitioner, said it was of late that young girls started approaching her over concerns about their private parts and she blamed it all on social media and pornography.
According to gynaecologists, liabiaplasty should only be carried out on girls who have medical abnormalities and must be performed on girls who are 18 years and above. In 2015-2016 about 200 girls below the age of 18 had vagina surgery and about 150 of them were under 15 years.
The NHS has clearly stated that labiaplasty should be carried out on girls only if and when they turn 18 years of age.

''Girls will sometimes come out with comments like,'I just hate it,I just want it removed,' and for a girl to feel that way about any part of her body, especially a part that is intimate;is very upsetting.''

''I am seeing young girls around 11,12 and 13 thinking there is something wrong with their vulva, that they are wrong shape, the wrong size and really expressing almost disgust.
''Their perception is that the inner lips should be visible almost like a Barbie but the reality is that there is a huge variation. It is normal for the lips to protrude.
''There isn't enough education and it should start really quite young, explaining that there is a range and that just as we all look different in our faces,we all look different down there and that is OK.''
