Ray Phiri,South Africa's Jazz Legend passes on after battle with cancer

Raymond Chikapa Enock Phiri,popularly known as Ray Phiri has passed on after a long battle with lung cancer.He was admitted into Nelspruit hospital just few days back before his passing,he was 70-years-old.


Ray Phiri became popularly known after he featured in Paul Simon's Graceland in 1986.He played the guitar very well and was also a vocalist and producer.

Some of his music which brought him fame and awards includes,Fire,Passion and Ecstacy,Look,Listen and Decide,People Don't Talk So Let's Talk,Turn On The Sun,Out Of The Ashes,Trouble In The Land Of Plenty.

His music was recognized both in his country of South Africa and the entire world which obviously made South Africa President honor him with the Silver Order of Ikhaamanga,an award for excellent achievement.

He is survived by three sons and five daughters.
