The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Ahmed Markarfi as the undisputed Chairman of the PDP

After months of crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party as to who leads the affairs of the party in which arose two factions,the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led faction and Senator Ahmed Makarfi led caretaker committee,the Apex court has however ruled that Senator Ahmed Makarfi led caretaker committee be immediately reinstated as the Authentic leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.


In a ruling on Wednesday in the Supreme Court,saw a five man panel of Judges who gave the judgement in favour of Senator Ahmed Makarfi stating that the court of Appeal which ruled in favour of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in Port Harcourt on February 27th was however set aside.

The judgement which was read by Justice Rhodes-Vivou on behalf of the other Judges,clearly stated that the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party held on the 21st day of May 2016 in Port Harcourt was in line with the removal of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of the party.

The court also clearly stated that the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led caretaker committee's appointment by the party was in accordance with the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party.

''The caretaker committee of the PDP led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi is hereby affirmed as the authentic national leader of the party.The judgement of the Court of Appeal,Port Harcourt Division delivered on February 27th is hereby set aside.''

After the judgement in the Supreme Court,PDP members and leaders which included Governors of Rivers and Ekiti state,Nyesome Wike and Ayo Fayose,Jerry Gana,Senator Ahmed Makarfi,Bode George,Dayo Adeyeye were however elated with the ruling of the court.
