Forest fire in Southern Spain leads to the evacuation of about 1,500 people

A forest fire in southern Spain which started on Saturday night near the town of Moguer,has left about 1,500 people been evacuated from their homes and hotels.


Based on reports,the forest fire is threatening one of Spain's nature's reserve which is home to some endangered species and also a nesting ground for birds migrating from Europe and Africa.

The nature reserve is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site-The Donana National Park in Spain that occupies about 123,550 acres of wetland  and woodland.The Nature park was established in 1969 while the Natural was established in 1989.

Based on this,rescue efforts of about 150 firefighters,10 helicopters,water dropping planes and other forms of rescue operations have been deployed to tackle the raging inferno.

A spokesperson for the Regional Andalusian Authority,Jose Gregorio Fiscal Lopez said the main focus was to try and stop the fire from entering the park.

''The fire has entered in the limits of the reserve and that is where we are focusing our efforts.''

The blaze which is said to be difficult in handling,is as a result of the hot and dry weather in the area with temperatures reaching about 39 degree celcius.
