Dog meat festival in Yulin,China commences despite alleged ban

The annual Dog meat festival in the city of Yulin has begun despite several reports that the festival has been banned by the government. The festival which commences in the province of Guangxi, will see about 10,000 dogs been slaughtered.

The ten day festival will see butchers slaughtering Dogs in the most absurd ways, some Dogs will be beaten to their deaths and others will experience the most terrifying ordeal of their lives;by been boiled alive.

It is believed that when these Dogs pass through these terrifying deaths, the tastier and more succulent the meat will be for the consumer. However,Humane Society International and other critics have kicked against these inhumane and cruel acts on animals by petitioning the government to as a matter of urgency put a stop to the festival.

The Yulin government on the other hand, says it has no power of stopping or prohibiting the festival as it did not organize the festival in the first place but they later banned the slaughter of Dogs in public after much protest in 2016.

This year however, the festival has commenced as the Yulin government played a lip service approach on the matter as said in a statement issued by the Vice President of International Campaign at PETA,Jason Baker.

''We have spoken with several people working within the Mayor's office, the food and drug administration and no one seems aware of a Yulin festival ban.''

Consumers of the Dog meat are of the opinion that the meat is no different to other types of more common animal meat like beef, goat, sheep or even pork meat.About 10-20 million Dogs are killed annually in China but however, consumption of Dog meat is not illegal in the country.
