Dried Monitor Lizard Penis sold as Tantric roots in India
There is a root known as Hatha Jodhi in India which is used mostly by the Asians in the UK,parts of the United States and Europe which is believed to bring happiness,prosperity and good luck.
The root which exemplifies two hands joined together in prayers have been replaced with dried monitor lizard penises by fraudsters in an effort to make quick and easy money.
According to reports,a joint team of investigators from the United Kingdom and India discovered the international fraud where yellow monitor lizard penises are now traded in place of the real Hatha Jodhi Tantric roots.
In a statement from the World Animal Protection,said wildlife authorities in India have raided several cities and states and successfully seized some samples which are already been sold online to unsuspecting members of the public.
In a recent raid in a house,in the city of Bhubaneswar,both Bengal and Yellow monitor lizard hemipenis which were dried by the fraudsters,were however seized.
A member of the investigating team said the illegal trade calls for concern as the lizard species involved,the Bengal and Yellow monitor lizard are protected under India and international laws and it is of importance that these species of lizard do not go extinct.
