Miss Nigeria advocates for stringent measures against rapist

The current Miss Nigeria,Chioma Obiadi has voiced out her thoughts and reactions to the incessant rape cases in the country. She however said rapist should be given life imprisonment or a death sentence.

Obiadi shared her thoughts on the prevailing menace when the Miss Nigeria Organization paid the News Agency of Nigeria a courtesy visit in Lagos.

''Cases of rape are on the increase now in the country,in fact it is becoming so alarming.I feel that we are recording increased cases because the perpetrators know that they will be imprisoned for few years.
''This i feel, isn't stringent enough. When these rapists know that they will be sentenced to life imprisonment or death, the crime will definitely decline.''

The Miss Nigeria beauty queen urged media houses to make public the rapists rather than the rape victims who are often times stigmatized by the public and she went further to advice parents, especially mother's to keep a close watch on their daughter's,especially their dress code.

''Media houses should project the rapists rather than the victims. It's the rapist that should be stigmatized and not the poor girl or lady who had the misfortune of being raped.
''Some parents are accomplice in this menace, they should be concerned about their daughter's movement and body language from time to time.
''We should return to our cultural and traditional values that promote decent dressing.''

She continued by blaming most parents for child labour and trafficking, pointing out the fact, that these parents want to live a better life, hence endangering their kids and clamored for  severe penalty against such parents.

''Better life syndrome is a major gateway that makes the parents to lure their children into trafficking and abuse.Such parents should be exposed and jailed.
''The media in conjunction with National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons-NAPTIP,should put more pressure on them,so that they can be arrested for prosecution.
''Any father or mother caught in the act locally or internationally should not be spared, they should be given stringent penalties.''

The beauty queen pleaded with Nigerians not to stigmatize rape victims but rather accept and understand their predicaments as they never wished to be raped in the first place.
