How safe are you on the Net while away from home during holidays?

Research has it that about 25 percent of persons have no idea about the great security risks they put themselves in when tagging locations on various social media platforms or using unsecured connections when surfing the net.


When you tag your location or use an unsecured connection,it gives the criminal the impression that your home might be empty at that point in time and this leaves your home and belongings at great risk.

The research which was carried out by security company,McAfee states that about 27 percent of individuals believe that WiFi connections are likely less secure when on holidays but 54 percent of individuals say they would rather use the unsecured connections than go without it.

A spokesperson for McAfee,Nick Viney however said it was mandatory to be safe and secure at all times when on the net.

''In our connected world,where so much information is shared without question,you have to be on your guard.
''Cyber criminals can use the information available on social media to build convincing stories as to why friends and family members are asking for money.It 's  always a good idea to reach out to the friend in question via a different method of communication to ensure it is a legitimate request.''

Always remember to be security conscious by adhering strictly to always browse securely on public WiFi,by not typing in your bank details or passwords.Always update your device operating system and Apps as old Apps and old versions of software can lead to security loop holes.
