About 17 million users of Zomato have had their data stolen

Zomato which is an India start-up firm and an online as well as mobile service that offers information about restaurants.night life which includes photographs and menus to its over 120 million users have been hacked into by hackers,stealing data on about 17 million of  it's users.


The firm said that names,emails and passwords that were encrypted was stolen from their database but that payment related information was safe as the information was stored separately.Zomato also went further to say,users that were affected have already been logged out from both their App and website and passwords have been reset accordingly.

The company however,mentioned that the hacked information was recently known to them but did not specify when it actually happened.

In a statement to it's customers,the firm urged users to change their passwords quickly,in case they had used the same password on other platforms.

''The hashed passwords cannot be converted/decrypted back to plain text,so the sanctity of your password is intact in case you use the same password for other services.But if you are paranoid about security like us,we encourage you to change your password for any other services where you are using the same password.''

Zomato was founded in 2008 and the firm is located in Gurgaon near Delhi with a customer base of about 120 million,that are active in about 10,000 cities,across 24 countries all over the world.
