Goa bridge collapses in India,2 dead several injured

A pedestrian bridge has collapsed in the western state of Goa leaving several people missing and others injured or dead.


According to local media reports,people had gathered on the bridge to witness a man who had jumped into the Sanvordem river in Curchorem been rescued by emergency team when the bridge collapsed on Thursday evening.

Police say more people might be trapped under the collapsed bridge and rescue efforts is on going to try and rescue more people

Speaking to the Goa Herald newspaper,South Goa MP,Narendra Sawaikar said:

''It was an unfortunate tragedy,the bridge must be demolished as the government had notified it as a dangerous bridge and notices were placed on both sides of the bridge not to use it.Right now,the priority is to recover the bodies.''

The bridge,according to sources,is more than 60 years old and has been banned for public use ever since.
