The World Health Organization and Congo's Health Ministry has reported a case of Hemorrhagic fever in an individual who later died and after conducting several test, the Ebola virus was discovered. This therefore signals the start of a new outbreak in the country.

The Congo Health Ministry in a statement said:

''Our country must confront an outbreak of the Ebola virus that constitutes a public health crisis of international significance. The case was confirmed from tests on nine people who came down with a hemorrhagic fever in Bas-Uele province in the north of the country on or after April 22.''

The previous outbreak of the Ebola virus in Congo was in 2014 and it claimed the lives of 42 people but did not constitute an epidemic.

Eugene Kabambi, who is the World Health Organization Country's Spokesman, said:

''The DRC is a big country and the zone affected is quite difficult to access but it is right on the border with Central Africa Republic, people are constantly coming and going across the border to visit friends,so we are taking very urgent preventive measures to contain the risk.
''We must engage with local communities so they understand that this is a virus unlike any other,it is very contagious and deadly. We are engaging with village heads and community leaders so we can all work together and stop the virus from spreading.''
