Vampire Bats invades Brazil infecting residents with Rabies

Reports says, there is an infestation of vampire bats in the north eastern part of Brazil which are rabid infected and when these vampire bats attack or bite you, then, you are most likely to be infected with rabies.

About 40 people are being treated for the rabies outbreak and one person has being reported to have died of the vampire bats attack. The outbreak which is the largest ever recorded,is attributed to an increase in population of these bats which however, are now nesting close to humans.

Disease control health teams in the region are however intensifying efforts to reduce the population of these vampire bats by catching them and applying a venom paste to their bodies.A health warning alert was issued by the health team, telling people to be weary of these bats and how to immediately report to the hospital in case of an attack.

These vampire bats, which before now feed on Dogs,Cats,Cows,Horses are said to have taken a special liking for human blood and obviously added it to their menu.

Residents and locals have expressed harrowing experiences they have gone through since the bats invasion began. Many said, they woke up to the sight of their bedspread covered with blood.

According to Professor Valdiirene Meira da Cunha:

''I turned on the light and i couldn't believe it.The bed was covered with my blood,i don't know what made me look up but when i did,i saw the bat hanging on the wall above my head.
''It was like a scene out of a horror movie,it was absolutely terrifying and my scream woke everyone up.''

Another victim,Ubaldina dos Santos also shared her fear and anxiousness:

''We are trying not to panic, but the houses we live in are old with crevices and cracks where the bats can enter.
''Everyone is living in fear of waking up and finding a vampire bat drinking their blood like Dracula.''

Residents have being advised to protect themselves by shutting their windows and doors, keep away all fruits that may attract the bats, keep dark places inside the house well lit up and block any visible little crack or space in which the bat might be able to sneak through.
