Vice President,Yemi Osinbajo pays a surprise visit to Garki model market in Abuja
This comes in line with the celebration of Democracy day and marking of two years of the present administration in office.
On the entourage were,the Minister of State for Trade and Investment,Aisha Abubakar,Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity,Laolu Akande and a host of other top government officials.
The visit by the Acting Vice President,was in accordance with him verifying the actual hike in prices of food stuffs as most Nigerians are finding it difficult to feed in this present administration.
Welcoming him to the market,with cheers and applause,the traders however,complained of their predicaments,ranging from high cost of shop,which ranges from N250,000 per year and inadequate shop space.
Responding to their plight,the Acting Vice President however,made a passionate appeal,beckoning on them in keeping the prices of food items at an affordable rate while the government looked into high cost of rent for the shops.
While in the market,he was actually in the know of the actual cost of food stuffs,he even bargained over some food stuffs,such as Fish,Rice,Beans and Onions.
According to the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity,Laolu Akande,
''This surprise visit is essentially in the mood of May 29,Democracy day that is approaching.The Acting President decided to go to the market to feel the pulse of Nigerians.
''He wanted an opportunity to hear directly from the people and he decided to go to the market,so that he could have some kind of one on one interaction with the traders and of course,to assure them that the Buhari administration is very much committed to revamping the economy and to assure the people that the singular purpose of the President is to ensure that life gets better.
''That things improve economically and in spheres of life in this country,and it is also in time,just as the beginning of the Ramadan fast,he also used the opportunity to encourage traders to ensure that they keep prices affordable and assured that government will always be ready to do whatever it can,to support all Nigerians at this time.''
