A new drug has been approved for the treatment of Liver cancer
The U.S Food and Drug Administration in a statement has approved the anti-cancer drug Stivarga(regorafenib)to also treat liver cancer.
Stivarga which is among the class of drugs referred to as Kinase inhibitors is said to block enzymes that promote cancer growth,the drug is the first to treat liver cancer in decades.
According to Dr.Richard Pazdur,who is the acting director of the agency's office of Hematology and Oncology products:
Reports indicates that about 40,000 people in the united states alone are said to be diagnosed with liver cancer just this year alone.Stivarga has already being tried on about 573 patients and found to be effective.
Although,the F.D.A warns that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should not take the drug and people who are of child bearing age should use contraception while taking the drug.Stivarga was granted and approved to Bayer Health care Pharmaceuticals.

''Limited treatment options are available for patients with liver cancer,the drug was approved for people with liver cancer treated previously with the drug Sorafenib.''
