Google Doc users affected by scammers

A phishing attack is said to have targeted users of google doc.The attack which is said to have come from a seemingly trusted source asks users to open a Google document.When you click,you are directed to a page to open the Google Docs App with your account information.


This however accesses your contacts and email account.The phishing attack was reported on Wednesday and obviously the fake Google Docs App can have access to your contacts and email without your knowledge.

Google in a statement on twitter yesterday however warned its users of this malicious attack:

''We have taken action to protect users against an email impersonating Google Docs,and have disabled offending accounts.We've removed the fake pages,pushed updates through safe browsing ,and our abuse team is working to prevent this kind of spoofing from happening again.We encourage users to report phishing emails in Gmail.If you think you clicked on a fraudulent email,visit g.co/SecurityCheckup and remove apps you don't recognize.''

Reports coming in shows that major news publications like CNN,New York Times,BuzzFeed also received this phishing email.
